How do you automate the Virtual keyboard?

Jun 8, 2015 at 11:47 PM
For our application, it would be nice to easily automate pressing the keys on the virtual keyboard. We can connect a real keyboard to the Xbox and type the characters; and therefore not have to use the controller to get to each of the keyboard characters. It would be nice to be able to send the characters through directly (like the connected keyboard does); rather than manually moving through the keyboard with the controller to get to each keyboard character to click.

How is this done? Does anyone have code that has done this?

Thank you

Or more simply, how do you write text to a Text box on the Xbox using automation?

That's, unfortunately, outside the scope of XboxConsole currently. As a wrapper around the native Xtf API, we're limited in what we can provide. The Xbox platform would need to add support for receiving keyboard input via the Xtf channel. You could try posting your question/request on the Xbox One Developer forums:

The only workaround I've seen is to have your game spoof your keyboard input whenever it receives a particular call via an RPC channel.

Sorry we couldn't be of more help. Good luck!
